How to: Clean and speed up your laptop's OS

CCleanerIt’s all too easy to fill your laptop’s hard drive with files and applications, and the more software you add the slower it’s likely to run. Traces of programs are even left behind after you’ve uninstalled them, potentially slowing your laptop further. Thankfully, it’s easy to spruce things up using an application called CCleaner.

You can download CCleaner from here for free. Once downloaded, you’ll be able to clean your laptop using three different tabs – Cleaner, Registry and Tools.

Cleaner lets you delete all your old or unwanted internet, explorer and system files – including your internet history, cookies and files in the recycle bin. It’s all simple, but it can free up hundreds of Megabytes in one go.

Registry lets you tidy the Windows Registry – the place traces of applications are left after you’ve made any major changes, potentially hampering your laptop’s performance. CCleaner makes it easy to remove any redundant Registry files.

Tools, finally, lets you remove the applications you no longer need, again freeing up more space on your laptop’s hard drive. Using CCleaner on a regular basis should help to keep your laptop in tip-top condition.
